Pre-show in the Pit
What does it take? It takes dedication, tenacity, passion, drive and care which leads to incredible motivation. Last night’s performance of Les Mis at LaGuardia High School was awe inspiring. The effort and talent is mind boggling. I am especially proud of my daughter’s hard work and achievements. Her talents are special gifts and she is learning to use them well.

Watch “When the Saints”
We are getting ready for a performance at a local Octoberfest. When students get together to collaborate with music it is a really fun experience. Balancing the sound and communication are the keys to success in playing with a partner!

Posture, Posture, Posture
Posture is so important when you play violin or any other instrument! When you strive to do your best by holding your instrument properly your good form can improve your pitch and quality. You can also avoid injuries that occur with bad technique. Ultimately, if you care enough to work on your posture your future as a musician will surely be bright!

Musical Outreach
When I bring students to perform for the residents at a local nursing home on a monthly basis I elevate my program to a new level. It is wonderful to provide music for those who need it most. It gives students a strong purpose, provides incentive for practice, experience in performance, while allowing them to be a part of a larger musical community. This is a win-win situation.

Rhythm
Lessons begin with the introduction of the whole note, which leads to learning the half, quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes. Rhythm is a system that is complex and spiritual which reaches the student’s soul. Once a student can feel the rhythm in music they are able to explore the dynamics which leads to musical expression. This will produce a strong connection and a greater love of music.

My Life
This summer I had a wonderful opportunity to join with other musicians and music teachers to perform in many parks around the Island and Brooklyn in a large ensemble. It inspired me to work harder at perfecting my clarinet skills. I set a great example for my children and enjoyed every minute of it.
Please encourage regular practice at home so you can continue to foster a love of music, a better musical experience and self discipline for your children. Who knows, perhaps you will start to practice as well!
