Carry On!

With every concert, there is a new moment to shine! Our family is very busy lately with musical performances almost every night of the week!  We’re tired from all of the late nights traveling in the frigid weather.  However,  I wouldn’t trade this wonderful, musical life for a calmer life.  I embrace my children’s greatness and success through music.  #carryon!

Today is the big day! It’s audition time for the Kids On Stage program with the New York Pops.  We worked on two octave scales, three octave chromatic, a prepared piece and sight reading.

Hope she makes it into the program!

How To Raise A Band Kid

image

It’s pretty easy to raise a band kid.  Make sure their instrument is in good working condition so they are not frustrated during practice.  I always make sure the clarinet has an ample supply of quality reeds and that the instrument is cleaned thoroughly with a swab so the pads won’t dry out.
It is helpful to constantly expose your child to live music whenever possible.  Make an attempt to play quality music at home often.  Have your child join extra band programs that are available in your area.   Also, don’t forget that regular, daily practice helps to make music fun, fun, fun!
